Better Learn To Speak Spanish if You Want This Corona Limonada

OK, this is a bit out of left field but Corona just rolled out a new vending machine in Las Vegas that makes you ask for a drink in Spanish. The drink is free. But, don’t speak Spanish? You’re kinda shit out of luck. The machine will keep telling you to try again.

It’s a total public relations stunt – they’re not a sponsor of ours and we’re writing about it – but it made me laugh. The Corona Limonada beverage team partnered up with the language learning platform Duolingo to make it happen. If you don’t speak Spanish you’ll be given prompts to learn, “Dame una Corona Hard Seltzer Limonada, por favor.”

If you can’t pronounce the Spanish, you may not get a free Corona Limonada but you may earn a Spanish lesson. Thanks to Duolingo, you’ll get one free month to practice.

The inspiration for the promotion, which was created by agency MullenLowe L.A. came from the brand’s name. A lot of non-Spanish speakers find it hard to pronounce. And while it’s really just a fun promotion to get a little exposure for the Corona Hard Seltzer Limonada, it’s pretty clever.

If you don’t speak Spanish you’ll be given prompts to learn, “Dame una Corona Hard Seltzer Limonada, por favor.”

Should you hop on a plane and go to Las Vegas for your free Corona Limonada?
